Sri PC Mohapatra, Director (Projects) RINL-VSP observed that RINL has increased its production capacity and has  modernized the existing units with high levels of automation and Information technology applications to leverage for technological advantage. He was the chief guest at the two day  Operating Committee meeting on “Automation & Information technology” with the theme “Leveraging automation and IT for process excellence & production of Value Added Quality Steel” hosted by RINL in Ukkunagaram on 22nd June’17. Speaking on the occasion, he said that automation and IT play a vital role in the operations and magnify its efficiency in an integrated steel plant and RINL has been taking several initiatives in that direction to enhance the productivity and producing high quality steel products in the competitive market. He said that there is a need to increase the steel  consumption to meet the target of 300 million tons by 2030 as per the National Steel Policy of Govt of India. Automation and IT would play a major role to achieve the target, he added. Later, he launched a new website of the Operating Committee on automation & IT to mark the occasion. Sri P Raychaudhury, Director (Commercial), EDS, GMs and senior officials were present on the occasion. Sri KV Ramana Rao, Executive Director (Works) I/c stressed the importance of  automation and IT and RINL used automation very extensively in its operations. Sri KVSS Rajeswar Rao, GM (IT&ERP) and Chairman, Organising Committee in his welcome address said that the objective of the meeting was to provide a platform for useful deliberations and innovations to solve critical issues and  benchmark in IT solutions to enhance process excellence in an integrated steel plant. Sri Somnath Mishra, DGM,RDCIS/SAIL and Secretary of Operating Committee presented a report on the activities and initiatives of the committee. Sri Sairam Kumar, GM(Automation) proposed a vote of thanks. Sri A Paul, AGM(IT) compered the proceedings. Several delegates from Vizag Steel and other steel plants took part in the workshop.
