RINL, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant celebrated ‘Centenary Year of Champaran Movement & Sabarmati Ashram’ today.Sri P Madhusudan, CMD,RINL, inaugurated the celebrations by garlanding statue of Mahatma Gandhi at MG Park in Ukkunagaram. Later, Sri P Madhusudan, CMD, Sri PC Mohapatra, Director (Projects), Sri DN Rao,Director (Operations), Sri KC Das, Director (Personnel), union leaders and a large number of employees participated in a “Walkathon” in Ukkunagaram  to mark the centenary celebrations of the movement inspired by Mahatma Gandhi in 1917.Speaking on the occasion, Sri P Madhusudan stressed the importance of celebrating ‘Champaran Movement’ on this day and the importance of rededicating ourselves towards ‘Swachh Bharat’ in the form of ‘Swachhagraha’ like the way each and every citizen participated in ‘Satyagraha’ movement during the fight for freedom. We need to make India neat and clean and for this the Government of India has called upon each and every citizen to participate in the ‘Swachhagraha’ movement in a big way. He also emphasized on the theme of the celebrations i.e. “Digidhan”, “Self Reliance through Steel” and “Increasing Steel Usage in Rural Sector”. CSR Department of RINL also organized a campaigns at Islampeta and Durganagar  surrounding villages of VSP. The campaign in the villages includes Walkathon, Awareness sessions on importance of celebrating the centenary year of Champaran movement & Sabarmati Ashram, Digi Dhan and Usage of Steel for Village Development etc. Walkathon was conducted in both Islampeta and Durga Nagar villages wherein all the beneficiaries of CSR programmes, GM (L&A), DGM (CSR), CSR officials, trainees, teacher, representatives from village  committee and villagers have taken part. The walkathon was well received by the villagers and the importance of ‘Swachhagraha’ was communicated to the villagers. Champaran is the first Satyagraha movement inspired by Mahatma Gandhiwhich took place in Champaran district of Bihar in 1917. The Champaran peasant movement’s objective was to create an awakening among the peasants against the European planters. Town Administration Department coordinated the event.
