Shri P.K.Rath, CMD, RINL-Vizag Steel today inaugurated Guard pond at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. Shri Rath congratulated the Projects and Works collective for completing the project within the stipulated time. He also said that RINL is always at the forefront in implementing environment friendly measures.Guard Ponds are ‘Safe Guard’ mechanisms for preventing discharge of ‘untreated/abnormal’ effluents into marine environment. In line with the statutory directives RINL constructed guard ponds at a cost of Rs 10 crores. This guard pond has 4 ponds with each pond having a capacity of 9600 cubic meters   for storing  2 days of  treated effluent from Coke Ovens. Once the water is stored, it shall be permitted to be discharged into the marine environment after its quality is cross-checked by APPCB. This ensures that 100% of the effluent being discharged into the marine environment is done only after it meets the prescribed norms. This is one more environment friendly measure taken by RINL to protect the surrounding environment. In this inauguration programme Shri K.C. Das, Director (Personnel), Shri D.K.Mohanty, Director (Commercial), Shri K.K. Ghosh, Director (Projects), Shri A.K.Saxena, Director (Operations), Shri K.V.Nagi Reddy, CVO, EDs, CGMs, other senior officials and trade union leaders participated.
