
In a concerted move towards enhancing operational efficiency and reducing expenditure, the leadership of RINL, the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, came together for a "Zero Demurrage Campaign" pledge on 02.09.2024.The Zero Demurrage pledge was organized at the ED (Works) Conference Hall under the leadership of Sri Atul Bhatt, CMD, RINL, along with Sri GVN Prasad, Director (Commercial), CGM(Works)-I/c, CGMs, Heads of Departments, senior officials and representatives of various trade unions. Sri Atul Bhatt, CMD, RINL launched Zero Demurrage Campaign as a first step towards cost reduction and achieving cash profit with increased production and efficiency.Recognizing the significant challenges and financial impacts associated with higher Rake Retention Time (RRT), the pledge was administered to reinforce the commitment of all participants for reducing RRT and achieving "ZERO DEMURRAGE." Higher rate of injection of Pulverised Coal in Blast Furnaces facilitates replacement of high cost Coke with lower cost Coal and thereby reduces the cost of production and also will help increase productivity of Blast Furnaces. In this direction RINL team has taken initiatives and put efforts to increase its PCI (Pulverised Coal Injection) rate from existing 100 kg/per ton of Hot Metal to around 180 kg/ton of hot metal in Blast Furnaces 1, 2 and 3.

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), Visakhapatnam Steel Plant conducted a Plant Level Mock Drill today on 23.06.2022 to test the On-Site Emergency Preparedness at an imaginary fire at Final Gas Cooler - 3 area of Coke oven and Coal Chemical Plant Dept , in which the emergency services like CISF Fire wing, Medical services, Gas Safety, Maintenance, safety department, Environment Management Dept, CISF (Security), HR dept etc have participated. During the Mock Drill, the fixed and mobile fire fighting installations such as High range fire monitor systems, Foam Flooding systems, Fire Tenders etc were put in operation and other communication facilities like Emergency Manual Call Point and siren system were used.
