Sports in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant came into being during the year 1983. While Sports Department commenced from the year 1990, Athletics, Boxing , Ball Badminton,Basketball, Body Building, Chess, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Karate, Kabaddi, Shuttle Badminton ,Roller Skating, Tennis, Taekwondo, Throw Ball, Volleyball, Weight Lifting and Yoga are being pursued by VSP employees. Medals at National level and consistent performances in Steel Plants Sports Board (SPSB) events are a regular feature.

To encourage Sports in a big way, Col.C.K Nayudu Ukku Stadium along with Indoor Stadiumwere constructed and outdoor courts prepared in 1995. Trishna Ground was provided to residents of Ukkunagaram township in 1990. In addition to the above, an International Roller Skating Rink in Indira Park was commenced in 2007. A Football Ground has been provided in the premises of Visakha Vimala Vidyalam, Balacheruvu Road. An exclusive Hockey field has been prepared in Sector-I, Ukkunagaram while a Multi Gymnasium isinstalled in the premises opp. Trishna Ground. VSP maintained a National Volleyball Academy from 1996 to 1999.Providing good Sports infrastructure and organizing Sports & Games regularly for employees, House wives, children and unemployed youth from surrounding areas indicates the emphasis on Sports by VSP management. Regular practice sessions:

Regular practice sessions are being held in Various Sports & Games, namely, 1) Boxing 2)Cricket 3) Ball Badminton 4) Basketball 5) Tennis 6) Roller Skating 7) Volleyball and 8) Shuttle Badminton. While Roller Skating sessions are held in the Roller Skating Rink at Indira Park, all the otheractivities are conducted in Ukku Sports Complex.
