As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, an Inter School Sports Quiz was organised today to celebrate National Sports Day which is the Birth Anniversary of India’s Hockey Legend, Major Dhyan Chand. The event was held in Multipurpose hall of Ukku Club, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.Sri G. Gandhi Chief general manager (HR-Corp. Services) inaugurated the event in the presence of Sri F. K. Lakra CGM (TA, Law & Contracts) Sri M. S. Kumar GM (Sports) Sri Y. Chandrasekhar GM & HOD (Town Admn) and Sri R. P. Sharma GM (CC) I/c. The dignitaries offered floral tributes to the Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. Sri J. Rahul DGM (HRD) who was the Quiz Master, conducted the Sports quiz in an interesting manner comprising of both Text and Visual Rounds. Sri M. S. Kumar GM (Sports) welcomed the gathering.

RINL celebrated National Sports Day on 29th August 2020 commemorating the birth anniversary of Late Major ‘Dhyanchand’. On the occasion of the National Sports Day, on-line Yoga competitions are held for employees and dependents. The competitions are held in four categories, namely 1) Men above 35 years 2) Men below 35 years 3) Women above 35 years and 4) Women below 35 years. A total of 51 men and 49 women participated. At the valedictory function held in Col. C. K. Naidu Ukku Stadium, was the Chief Guest, Sri Kishore Chandra Das, Director (Personnel) RINL distributed prizes to the Winners. Floral tributes were paid to Major Dhyanchand. Sri M. S. Kumar GM (Sports) welcomed the gathering. Speaking on the occasion, Sri Kishore Chandra Das mentioned that RINL is encouraging sports since inception and in spite of many constraints due to Covid-19, on-line coaching in various disciplines is being continued by Sports dept. He also stated that once sports activities are resumed, Sports Dept. will be organizing many events in the current financial year.

Access to quality training is an essential factor which plays a very important role in the success of any sports person, especially it is a noble duty to encourage the differently abled sports persons by providing training etc. Keeping this in view, As part of CSR initiative, RINL has provided a financial assistance of Rs.75,000/- to Sri Jeet Kumar, a Para Olympian, working in PAO, Ministry of Steel, to take up intense coaching for three months in power lifting (bench press) for achieving better results in the Inter Ministry Bench Press tournament scheduled to be held later this year at Gujarat.
